3-4A District Insider
Five of the six teams in 3-4A are in action, highlighed by a rivalry game between Class 5A Amarillo and Canyon Randall.  Pampa will take on Class 3A Borger in an old Class 4A district matchup.  Amarillo Palo Duro looks to get 2008 off on the right foot in a matchu with cross-town rival Amarillo Tascosa.  In what would have been a good 3A matchup last year Canyon back in Class 4A hooks up with Andrews.  The surprise of the district in 2007 Dumas takes on Perryton. Amarillo Caprock is the only team in the district who is idle.

Pampa vs. Borger: On paper this looks like a matchup of two programs on the decline, Borger once a strong 4A program out of the panhandle has fallen on hard times since the drop to 3A four years ago, while Pampa has really lacked the athletes they once had as enrollment dwindles there.  Pampa's young offense should move the ball enough to get past a depleted BHS squad.
Amarillo Palo Duro vs. Amarillo Tascosa: Tascosa has made a concerted effort to make some noise this year despite being in a brutal loop, with lots of experience back, the Rebels should get off to a good start this week. PD is young and athletic and I expect big improvement but THS is better in every area, save for speed.  Take the Rebels in this battle of Amarillo.
Andrews vs. Canyon: New HC Jeff Cordell makes his debut in Andrews and the Mustangs are very young, and they'll have their hands more than full with Canyon and QB Spencer Church. Canyon's offensive experience will be too much for AHS to overcome in what is a rematch of the 2006 Class 3A Area Playoffs a game that was won by Canyon.
Canyon Randall vs. Amarillo: This is known as the Battle of Bell Street in Amarillo and last year Randall made a statement by beating the Sandies for the first time ever.  Now the roles are reversed as the Raiders come in as the prohibited favorites as nearly every key player is back from a 9-2 squad. AHS as always played a ton of seniors early and they are a relative unknown.  The edge goes to Randall.
Dumas vs. Perryton: Dumas will have to learn early that it is a lot different being the hunted instead of the hunter. After sneaking up on teams last year the Demons will get everyone's best on a weekly basis. Although DHS is still high powered on offense questions are abound on defense. Perryton won't have the athletes to expose the weaknesses but the Rangers are a tough out and at home they are especially dangerous.

Abilene Cooper & Wolfforth Frenship are the two teams to watch in 4-4A but both will be Div. 1, the real battle in that loop will be for the two spots in Div. 2.  Hereford is a solid bet for one spot but can Big Spring hold off Plainview for the final slot? Don't count Lake View out either!    Amarillo Palo Duro 1837                            Amarillo Caprock 1834                               Canyon Randall 1426                                 Dumas  1063                                                 Pampa 1030                                                  Canyon 995                                            *The top two teams in the district will advance to the Division 1 playoffs
