13-3A District Insider
The new look 13-3A has five of the six teams in the loop in action as only Emory Rains is idle.  Lovejoy plays their first ever varsity game in school history against Sanger.  Nevada Community will look for their first ever playoff appearance in school history in 2008 and they open the 2008 season with Class 2A Melissa. Princeton and Crandall hook up in a battle of teams who disappointed in 2007.  A very young Quinlan Ford squad hooks up with Mineola out of district 14-3A.  Defending Class 2A Division 1 State Champion Farmersville takes on Winnsboro to close out the slate this week.

Sanger vs. Lovejoy: Lovejoy is playing their first varsiity game and they have some high hopes of being competitive in their first ever varsity game.  They have a winnable opener against Sanger but the Indians have a very good group coming back from last year's 3-7 squad.  I expect Lovejoy to stay competitive but in the end Sanger pulls away.
Melissa vs. Nevada Community:  Melissa has had relative success in their short history and the Cardinals should be a tough foe for the Nevada Community Braves who should be on an emotional high with the return of QB B.J. Dale who missed all of 2007 after suffering injuries in a car accident.  Look for a close one, but we'll take the Braves.
Crandall vs. Princeton:  Neither team had real good seasons in 2007, Crandall's was expected as the Pirates went with a youth movement. Princeton dabbled in the Single Wing offense for part of the year but that turned out to be a disaster. Crandall's expereince will play a key role in this one and I expect CHS to win by a rather large margin.
Mineola vs. Quinlan Ford:  Another very good matchup as both teams on paper appear to be evenly matched. Mineola is led by RB C.J. Everett, while Quinlan Ford is very young and could suffer first game jitters. QFHS does have some decent depth and talent but with their youth we'll take the Yellow Jackets to win by 6 points.
Farmersville vs. Winnsboro: Class 2A Winnsboro hosts the defending 2A champions who have since moved up to Class 3A. Winnsboro has back a lot of experience and that should give the Red Raiders confidence, however Farmersville despite losing Tahj Redwine still has RB Nickevian Taylor and the very versatile Chase Wiggins.  I'll go with the Farmers.

14-3A should be a battle between Canton and Van, but I expect Wills Point and Mineola to be in a battle for third.  You could see several different tie breaker scenarios play out, one team not mentioned worth watching is Eustace. The Bulldogs could be poised to be the surprise team out East this year!     1. Lovejoy 848                                                 2.
