8-4A District Insider
Joshua will take on Azle in a winnable game for the Owls to start the season, while once again Arlington Seguin opens the season up with Burleson.  In maybe the best matchup in the region Waxahachie visits Everman. Granbury makes their return to 4A as they host Class 5A Richland. Mansfield Legacy plays their first varsity game in school history as they visit Keller Central.  There's also two really interesting Saturday games as Stephenville hosts Aledo and Mansfield Timberview takes on Class 2A power Buford, Georgia at Texas Stadium.

Joshua vs. Azle: Judging from past history most would take Azle in a landslide over Joshua, but the worm has turned some.  Joshua is an improving program while Azle has fallen on hard times.  The Hornets despite being a big enrollment school don't have much depth, while Joshua brings back RB Jon Savage and QB Jesse Williamson who started on defense last year will step in. JHS by a touchdown.
Arlington Seguin vs. Burleson:  Seguin begins the Carlos Lynn era with their annual season opener against Burleson, the Elks who still run the Wing-T are always tough to prepare for.  Seguin has some great skill kids and big time speed but they are young and they are learning a new system.  While Burleson is well schooled in what they do so I'll go with 5A Burleson.
Waxahachie vs. Everman:  A rivalry renewed as when these two get together its always a barn burner.  Everman has major questions up front but they are strong on defense.  Waxahachie is similar to Everman on offense but they might not be quite as solid up front on defense.  That's the only difference I see with these two teams so I'll take EHS by 3.
NRH Richland vs. Granbury:  Granbury makes their debut in the Scotty Pugh era as they battle what should be an improved Richland squad.  Richland is led by the versatile WR Phil Gonzales and a slew of speedy WR's and DB's but they are thin up front.  Granbury will be young as there has been a lot of roster turnover, so I expect the Rebels to take this one.
Mansfield Legacy vs. Keller Central:  Mansfield Legacy makes their varisity debut this week against 5A Keller Central and WR Jarrod Darden.  The Broncos got mixed reviews in their scrimmage last week as offensively they should be able to move the ball but they'll struggle stopping people.  Expect Keller Central to get a test early but they'll pull away in the second half.
Aledo vs. Stephenville: This has turned into one of the best rivalries in the area and even though its not a district contest it'll still be a war.  Aledo has been hit by the injury bug some and that may affect the Bearcats but they are strong up front and that matchup with the Stephenville DL will be worth the price of admission.  SHS has great skill kids back and their balance on offense will be a difference in a close game.
Buford, GA vs. Mansfield Timberview: I won't even begin to lie and tell you I know anything about Buford because I don't! (We just don't have it in the budget to make it to Georgia for games!)  However the word from the Georgia folks is they are a powerhouse with speed, so it'll be a good test for the Wolves and their high powered ground game.  Defense wins this one and I'll be a homer and take the Wolves.

The FWISD district is always a tough loop to project especially this early in the season. Southwest is a solid bet for one spot and they'll be Division 1. Dunbar and Wyatt are the favorites to advance in the small school bracket.  The real battle is for fourth place where Eastern Hills should take it barring injuries.     1.
