| A Saturday matchup between former district rivals Aledo and Stephenville highlights this week's action in 6-4A. Azle looks to get the season off to a good start with a winnable game against Joshua. Brewer will be the first ever opponent for Frisco Liberty this week. In a possible playoff preview, Boswell will host Wichita Falls. Mineral Wells visits Glen Rose in what should be an interesting contrast of styles. Birdville will take on a very young Arlington Heights squad and Saginaw will also battle a young team in Eastern Hills. Springtown will host Western Hills to round the schedule out. | |||||||||

| Aledo vs. Stephenville: This has turned into one of the best rivalries in the area and even though its not a district contest it'll still be a war. Aledo has been hit by the injury bug some and that may affect the Bearcats but they are strong up front and that matchup with the Stephenville DL will be worth the price of admission. SHS has great skill kids back and their balance on offense will be a difference in a close game. | |||||||||
| Joshua vs. Azle: Judging from past history most would take Azle in a landslide over Joshua, but the worm has turned some. Joshua is an improving program while Azle has fallen on hard times. The Hornets despite being a big enrollment school don't have much depth, while Joshua brings back RB Jon Savage and QB Jesse Williamson who started on defense last year will step in. JHS by a touchdown. | |||||||||
| WS Brewer vs. Frisco Liberty: Generally teams who are playing their first ever varsity game don't have a realistic shot to win, but the RedHawks have a shot at home against Brewer. The Bears have a renewed sense of enthusiasm under new HC Paul Sharr, but the bottom line is they were still 1-9 last year and there isn't much talent. Liberty will be competitive but gotta take BHS in this one. | |||||||||
| Wichita Falls vs. Saginaw Boswell: Wichita Falls on the offensive side of the ball has some playmakers but they've got questions up front. Boswell has the athletes to really test the Coyotes especially with LB Emeka Ekwulugo. On offense Boswell has changed formats and will be under center some as they'll look to pound it out with RB Donte Lipscomb and he could be the difference. | |||||||||
| Mineral Wells vs. Glen Rose: Glen Rose QB Derek Thompson is back after leading the Tigers to the 3A Quarter-Finals last year, although most of his skill kids have moved on expect Glen Rose to be OK. Mineral Wells is opening a new stadium and they've got some experience back along with a strong sophomore class, the DB's are still green however and they can't simulate what GRHS does in practice. GRHS by 14. | |||||||||
| NRH Birdville vs. FW Arlington Heights: Birdville still has a Dorman at QB although its little brother Chris now running the show. He's got a better supporting cast than older brother did and if he can be consistent and limit mistakes the Hawks will be fine. Arlington Heights is very young and they struggled in two pre-season scrimmages. They are a year away from being a playoff contender. BHS rolls big. | |||||||||
| FW Eastern Hills vs. Saginaw: Both teams are going with youth this year as they graduated strong senior classes. Saginaw has changed offenses and will be smashmouth team behind a strong stable of backs. Speaking of RB's keep an eye on Eastern Hills sophomore RB Roscoe Lee, if you blink he's gone. This will come down to the wire and I've got a funny feeling EHHS eeks out a mild upset victory. | |||||||||
| FW Western Hills at Springtown: I think this one will be a mismatch, Springtown could really be a player in the 6-4A race as WR/DB Clayton Cooper is a player to watch. Coach Turner is one of the best offensive minds around. Western Hills is extremely young and inexperienced and winning in Springtown is tough. I'll take POJO. | |||||||||
