| Abilene Cooper the district favorite shouldn't have too much trouble with Fort Worth Wyatt in a home game, while Big Spring could have their hands full with a very strong 3A squad in Snyder. Hereford will look to keep the momentum they had at the end of 2007 going as they take on Lubbock Estacado in what should be a high flying affair. Plainview will try to erase the bad memories of 2007 when they went 1-9 as they take on Lubbock Monterrey. San Angelo Lake View has quite a road trip ahead of them as they take on Del Rio, while Frenship battles Lubbock High. | |||||||||

| FW Wyatt vs. Abilene Cooper: A last minute replacement Wyatt gets to take the roadtrip to Abilene. Cooper is releshing the shot to be the big dog on the block in 4A & they'll be looking to make a statement against a Wyatt squad that can match the Cougs at the skill spots, but the Chaps lack the depth to stay with CHS. RB Marcus Turner is back to his natural spot for WHS & the player to watch for Cooper is DB Will Ford. | |||||||||
| Big Spring vs. Snyder: A very interesting matchup here, Snyder is coming off their second trip to the semi-finals under HC Chad Rogers but the Tigers lost many key players. Big Spring was 3-8 last year and they return all their key personel and they added WR/DB LaRay Woodard from Mansfield Summit. I'm picking Snyder in a close one but don't be surprised if the Steers pull the upset. | |||||||||
| Lubbock Estacado vs. Hereford: The Matadors make their 3A debut this week against Hereford and QB Parker Bridwell who is moving up the recruiting charts. Estacado has their own star QB in Kyle Jackson and the Mats young skill kids will have the speed advantage over the Herd. I expect a lot of points in this one but Hereford is at home and they have the edge in experience. | |||||||||
| Plainview vs. Lubbock Monterrey: This could be billed the "High Plains Underachiever Bowl," both teams didn't fare as they normally do in 2007. Monty did go 6-6 and had marginal success but that was not a typical Plainsmen team in 2008. Plainview was 1-9 however they nearly made the playoffs, Angry Red returns the house and should be much improved but Monty is too deep and strong. | |||||||||
| San Angelo Lake View vs. Del Rio: The Chiefs for the third season in a row are taking on 5A Del Rio and last year QB John David Baker led Lake View to a win which broke a long losing streak. The game is in Del Rio this year and its quite a road trip from San Angelo. The Rams will be solid, but I think Baker and RB's Chris Blair and TaVonte WIlliams are enough to give Lake View a season opening win. | |||||||||
| Wolfforth Frenship vs. Lubbock: What a perfect confidence booster for the Tigers as a young defense gets a chance to build some momentum against lowly Lubbock High. Although the Westerners will be much improved they still will be unable to stay with Frenship which has seven starters back on offense. Look for the Tigers to roll. | |||||||||

| Canyon Randall is the prohibited favorite to take the crown in 3-4A, and Canyon looks strong for one fo the small school slots. Palo Duro, Pampa and Dumas should battle it out for the two of the three final spots in the playoffs. If Pampa and Dumas hold PD off this would push Dumas to Division 1 despite an enrollment of under 1100 students. | Abilene Cooper 2048 Wolfforth Frenship 1639 Plainview 1572 San Angelo Lake View 1254 Hereford 1202 Big Spring 1060 *The top two teams in the district will advance to the Division 1 playoffs | ||||||||
