Beaumont
Ozen Panthers
Traditionally Ozen has been a playoff regular in Southeast Texas. In fact they
have only missed the playoffs 3 times in their 10 year history. 2 of those
times have come in the last 2 years but the Panthers are improving, going from
1-9 in 2006 to 4-6 last year. This season Ozen returns 15 total starters that
will try to help lead them back to the playoffs once again. This will be Coach
Rison's 2nd year and he expects things to begin looking up for the Panthers.
Athletes once again will not be the problem as the Panthers are loaded in the
skill positions. In my opinion there is no excuse why Ozen can not make the
top four even in this tough District.
Key Wins Last Year
Central (17-10)
Last Year’s Scores
West Brook 26 Ozen 6
PA Memorial 19 Ozen 12
Ozen 19 Seguin 8
PN-G 21 Ozen 19
Dayton 33 Ozen 0
Ozen 25 LC-M 22
Nederland 31 Ozen 14
Lumberton 40 Ozen 22
Ozen 29 Vidor 14
Ozen 17 Central 10
Offense
Ozen returns 9 offensive starters from last year’s team that averaged 16
points per game. The Panthers will be talented at the WR position led by
Willie Jefferson who by the way has 4.6 speed and Anthony Lee. Honorable
Mention All-District OL Clyde Petre returns and will be joined on the line by
Daniel Lamelle (47 pancake blocks), Kaylon Jones and Jherick Campbell. At the
Wide Reciever position Willie Jefferson and Anthony Lee will be the main
target for Quarterback. Speaking of the Quarterback position Coach Rison is
still looking for their #1 man. The Offensive Line looks strong as well Daniel
Lamelle (6-3, 255) and Jherick Campbell (6-0, 260). "We will be very
stong on the Line says Rison, We have to quit making silly mistakes and we'll
be fine". Speed should lead the Panthers back to the postseason.
Other Key Players
None Listed
Defense
6 starters are back on defense from last year’s unit that allowed 22 points
per game. The defense will be led by LB Justin Isadore. Isadore had a great
2007 season as he collected 112 tackles. Also back is DB Breon Johnson who
recorded 5 interceptions last year. Look for John Prescott, Milton Leday and
Jarred Lee to make a name for themselves on the defensive line. Isadore (112
Tackles) is one of the top Linebackers in the region and have College talent.
This kid should have a huge year on Defense, and if he can stay healthy look
for the number of tackles to go up again this season.
Other Key Players
Pierre Harmon (LB)
Dayton left the District and Livingston comes in. Nederland and Port Neches
Groves are the top teams picked but look for the Panthers to have something to
say about that. Ozen will be a team without a true home in 2008 as they will
share home stadiums with West Brook and Central. They will open the 2008
season with Game 1 of the Beaumont Bowl at West Brook. On September 6 the
Panthers play host to Port Arthur Memorial at Babe Zaharias Stadium. They will
open 20-4A play against Nederland at Alex Durley Stadium. Here is the complete
2008 schedule for the Beaumont Ozen Panthers……
