Greater Houston Week 0 Superlatives: Big Men on Campus
Don of the Big Men: Jacob Poole, Cy Falls QB
Poole wasted no time getting ‘adjusted’ to the new position on the varsity level. Instead, he took it the next level by throwing for 219 yards and five touchdowns and running for another 190 yards and two touchdowns in a 52-42 win over Bryan in his debut. Poole is said to be a ‘natural’ passer and is the best he has coached, said Cy Falls coach David Raffield.
Next in Line: Payton Ploch, Dayton QB
Like the young man mentioned above, everything that could possibly be done by one player, Ploch did it. As if running for 281 yards and three touchdowns was not enough, he also had another two touchdowns and 110 yards passing as well and the Broncos rolled Bay City in the season opener 42-20
Best of the Rest
Reginald Perry, Yates RB
On live television, Perry had the leading role. In the annual Booker-Bryant Classic, Yates went on to win over Houston B.T. Washington 41-25. As for Perry’s role: 251 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns.
Shawn Onyechi, RB Deer Park:
Call this a coming out party for Onyechi. After being sidelined for his entire junior season to injury, Onyechi wanted to make big things happen for his senior season. In Week 0, he hit the ground running literally gaining 203 yards and three touchdowns in win over Jersey Village.
Terrell Reese, Brenham WR
The Cubs were on the road this week and made quite a showing at the San Antonio Alamo Dome. In a 37-14 win over Katy ISD’s Mayde Creek, Reese had eight receptions for 97 yards and three touchdowns. Word is one of his one-handed touchdown grabs even surprised him.
