In a special for TexasPrepInsider, Dallas writer Alex King gives his thoughts about some Dallas-Fort Worth teams he felt caught his attention at Day 1 of the FOX Sports Southwest 7-on-7 State Championship presented by adidas and Academy Sports & Outdoors.

When I got out to the state tournament today the first thing I noticed was there was talent everywhere and that it was extremely hot! There were teams coming and going from all angles. Some teams arrived with some major swagger like Cedar Hill, even though they didn’t do too well today.

There were some big named 2010 kids there today, and one who caught my eye for sure was Scout.com 5-star running back Lache Seastrunk. I watched a little bit of Lache and after one play I saw the speed and cutting ability he has and I was blown away. Seastrunk has a second gear that most people don’t have. He was double teamed almost the entire game.

The one play he didn’t get doubled on turned out to be a 45-yard touchdown. Even though Temple didn’t make it to the winners bracket, it easy to say that Seastrunk didn’t disappoint.

Whitehouse looked great in early games and have some game breakers in Trey Metoyer and Quincy Aldridge. Metoyer has great athletic ability as a wide receiver and made numerous great plays out there today. Aldridge in my opinion was the most versatile player at the tournament today. He lined up at wide receiver, cornerback and safety and looked awesome at all three. Even though they will be in the losers bracket these two are extremely exciting to watch and will most likely put on a show again tomorrow.

Abilene went 3-0 today with ease it seemed especially fitting with the play Herschel Sims provided out there. Sims is a solid running back catching the ball out of the back field . What was great about him was he was lined up at wide receiver today and excelled at the position making plays left and right.

The major surprise today was that Richland didn’t make it to the championship bracket. Even though they went 2-1 they were outscored in overall points by Desoto and Abilene Cooper and were knocked out of the winners bracket.

Desoto looked good out there today and were making plays everywhere. Desoto has speed and athleticism all over the field. At times during the day they made it look easy scoring on one play drives and two play drives back to back. They are definitely a team to watch out for tomorrow.

Denton Guyer was another team that went 3-0 and looked great all day. When you have JW Walsh back at quarterback it makes it easier on your team to excel as he makes you better with his play. Walsh was throwing bullets and making nice accurate throws all over the place. At times it looked extremely easy for him as he lead his team up and down the field with ease.

Cedar Hill did not have as good a day as many would have thought and didn’t play up to their hype that everyone thought they would. However, they will most likely be a top team going into next season with all the talent they possess.
Today was an exciting day with emotions flying high with great plays being made all over the place and some teams not playing as well as they should have. Tomorrow should be another good day with some great looking teams in the winners bracket. Stay tuned as I will have another blog for Saturday.
