It was nothing less than exciting as the finale games of the day both went into overtime at The Woodlands state qualifying tournament Saturday morning and afternoon. Many of the North Houston teams along with Willis, Katy Cinco Ranch, Cy Falls, and Cy Fair were all on hand for the action.

Teams from Klein Forest and Oak Ridge battled in the finals while Spring DeKaney and Cy Falls were in the consolation. Both the Golden Eagles and the War Eagles earned the right to participate at the state-qualifying tournament in College Station in July. DeKaney won third place.

FINALS
Throughout the day, Klein Forest’s Lewis Williams made quite a few catches. But it was his final catch that was the most critical as his catch was the game winner in the championship game, giving the Golden Eagles the necessary points to come away with a 32-26 win over Oak Ridge in double overtime.

Whether it was the first half, second half, or overtime, it was evident that the momentum shifted three or more times in the championship game between Klein Forest and Oak Ridge. While the War Eagles wore the white and blue jerseys and the Golden Eagles in green, the one color that claimed no side was yellow at the penalty flag seemed to be in heavy rotation.

Through one half it seemed as though the War Eagles were in complete control of the game with a 19-6 halftime lead. Oak Ridge quarterback Ryan Cyr was on point connecting with Michael Handy, Trent Langley, Chris Grett and Okwore Uche, all of whom caught a touchdown pass or several leading up to.

But Klein Forest was not going to go away quietly. They too had a hot handed signal caller in Matt Davis, who brought the team back from two scores down. It was Matt Cabble, Kalon Junious, and Damian Payne on the receiving end of Davis’ touchdown strikes. That, and the help from a stout defensive effort, brought the game to an even score after regulation.

Oak Ridge started with the ball and ended up with no points, as the same happened to Klein Forest. Then, the Golden Eagles made it happen and ended as the champions.

For Oak Ridge, it was the Handy show as he and Cyr hooked up early and often in the win.
