2009 HOUSTON TEXANS SQT (DAY 2,
SUNDAY)
POOL A- CY FALLS, KLEIN, SPRING, WOODLANDS
This pool in my opinion is the best by far and I expect the pool winner to also
take the entire SQT. Cy Falls is always a contender but if they couldn’t qualify
at their own SQT I doubt they will do it here. The defensive backfield for the
Golden Eagles will have two leaders in SR DB Cedric Williams and SR DB Josh Rogers while the offense will be led by the emerging JR WR/RB Pierre Lucas.
Klein during the fall is a totally different team than now with no running
attack in 7on7 but athletes like SR RB Dakota Barnes and SR RB Patrick Johnson
definitely make the transition easier. Spring looks they are back as they nearly
won their pool last week but came up just short with SR WR Arthur Londy, SR DB
Kareen Shaw and JR WR Greg Livingston leading the way. Woodlands had one down
year but look as strong as ever now with players like JR RB Daniel Lasco, SR WR
Randy Knust, and SR CB Ryan Clapsaddle.
-Jay’s Pool A Winner: SPRING (then Woodlands, Klein, Cy Falls) Darkhorse: Klein
POOL B- ALAMO HEIGHTS, KLEIN COLLINS, LEWISVILLE, PEARLAND
Alamo Heights usually makes the long trip for this SQT and also normally has
some pretty good success. Unfortunately for the Mules they lost some key leaders
like QB Drew Allen and will need younger players to step up and take over those
roles. Klein Collins doesn’t show you much passing during the fall but they are
capable because of guys like SR RB JaMichael Rozier, SR DB Sam Shaw, SR WR Brett Hume, and SR RB Kenneth Centamore. The Lewisville Farmers may have a brand new
coach in Dick Olin, but he is more than familiar with the 7on7 game and this SQT
particularly and will lean early on SR DB Julian Rodriguez and SR WR Kedran
Davis. Pearland lost a lot of skill players but have new faces ready to step up
like JR WR Miles Kanipes, SR DB Jeffery Phillips and SR QB Trey Anderson.
-Jay’s Pool B Winner: ALAMO HEIGHTS (then Pearland, Klein Collins, Lewisville)
Darkhorse: Klein Collins
POOL C- CINCO RANCH, PEARLAND DAWSON, OAK RIDGE, TOMBALL
Cinco Ranch is coming off one of their best seasons ever and return leadership
guys like SR LB James Radcliffe and SR LB Trevor Holt. Pearland Dawson only went
1-2 last weekend at the Manvel SQT but looked very good as they lost one game by
6 and then lost to eventual 5-0 tournament champion Lamar by only 6 as well. The
War Eagles of Oak Ridge will return some very talented players this year and
could threaten with SR RB Freddie Dotson, SR QB Ryan Cyr, SOPH RB Michael Handy
and SR DB Trent Langley. Tomball came just three points shy of winning their
pool at Cy Falls and as long as you have the game changing abilities of SR WR
Jordan Leslie on the field you will have a shot.
-Jay’s Pool C Winner: TOMBALL (then Cinco Ranch, Oak Ridge, Pearland Dawson)
Darkhorse: Oak Ridge
POOL D- *LANGHAM CREEK, CY CREEK, PASADENA MEMORIAL, SEVEN LAKES
SR QB Will Bryant, SR WR Mitchell Juergens, and SR WR Garrett Juergens were
brilliant last week as they went 5-0 and won the Cy Falls SQT last week
therefore they can’t advance past pool play this weekend. Cy Creek went
undefeated in a very good pool as well before coming up short in the semi-finals
against Langham. The Cougars have athletes everywhere including SR WR Brent Mitcham, JR RB Jermichael Selders, and JR DB Derek Greenup. Pasadena Memorial
lost their all-everything man in RB Bo Snelson but will try to continue their
strong team play with SR RB Tyler Mathis and SR CB Wykie Freeman. Seven Lakes
doesn’t get much attention being in the same district as Katy and Cinco Ranch
but they have become a very solid program and will need SR WR Christian Duda to
really stand out.
-Jay’s Pool D Winner: CY CREEK (then Seven Lakes, Pasadena Memorial) *Langham
Creek has already qualified and can’t advance but I think they will once again
win their pool
Semi-Finals Pool A vs Pool B: Spring over Alamo Heights
Semi-Finals Pool C vs Pool D: Cy Creek over Tomball
Third Place Game: Tomball over Alamo Heights
Championship Game: Spring over Cy Creek
