This season was not a great season for the Plano East Panthers, as they suffered their worst season in the history of the program. Coming into the program, they had high hopes with one of their first D1 caliber players returning for the first time in school history. Johnny Ringo, head coach of the Panthers, was quoted earlier in the season that the running game would be an important factor to the season.
The Panthers had their own form of thunder and lightning with Opurum and junior Running Back D'Lyle Washington. Some thought that Opurum might have lost a step this season or been a bit out of shape - but that didn't stop teams from offering the big bruising running back. He might ultimately project like Henry Melton, the running back turned defensive lineman for the Texas Longhorns.
Opurum's commitment is the second early commitment from Plano East. Josh Peprah committed to Wisconsin earlier this season. Signing day could bring three or four more mid-level signings for the Panthers.
