The Pasadena Memorial Mavericks took on crosstown rivals Pasadena High School in a 22-5A match-up held at Pasadena Memorial Stadium Friday night, and TPI was there to bring you all the action.

Pasadena Memorial senior running back Bo Snelson had practiced at quarterback during the summer so that if the circumstance arose where he was needed, he could step in and fill that void.

Well, consider this weeks void filled!

The Maverick's regular starting QB Tate Gresham was out this week with an injury, so the Mavericks turned to their back-up plan.
It seems to have worked out nicely for them as Snelson got the start at QB and rushed for 236 of the teams 331 yards on the ground, and scored 4 of the teams 5 offensive touchdowns.

The Pasadena Eagles seemed to be over matched from the start of things as the Maverick's Tyler Mathis took the games opening kick-off 84 yards for the touchdown.

The Maerick's Chase Adamek followed that up soon after with a blocked punt recovery for another touchdown.

The Eagles came back and scored on a 2 yard dive from Luis Montoya to close the gap some, but Snelson proceeded to take the next snap 80 yards to the house for his first touchdown on the night.

Pasadena came back again and picked up 3 more points on a 25 yard field goal to bring the score to 21-10.

The Maverick's added 2 more touchdowns in the half by WR Chance Imhoff, and Snelson respectively to close out the half up 35-10.

From there it was pretty much decided as the Maverick's finished strong to win 49-17.

We caught up with head coach John Snelson as well as Bo after the game to get their thoughts on the win and how Bo felt at the quarterback position.

"The injury bug has really kind of got us this year. We were very lucky last year, and not so lucky this year. Bo came in and did a good job for us. We were hoping to get him off throwing the ball a little bit because I knew everybody would just crowd the box on us, but we'll do a better job next week if Tate (Gresham) can't come back and we'll keep on plugging."

When asked his thoughts on his new found role the younger Snelson added this.
"I was definitely excited. I like playing quarterback, I like running the ball. We were able to spread people out some more keep those safeties out on us when we are trying to run the eye.
Overall I'm excited, our defense stepped up, our offense played well, this is definitely something that we needed."

The win puts the Mavericks at 2-2 on the year and 1-1 in district while dropping the Eagles to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in district play.
