In the final game of the HEB Heart of Texas Classic at Waco ISD Stadium, the Waco University Trojans kncked off the Crosby Cougars 14-7 in a stunning upset Saturday night.

WACO- 2007 was a season to forget in a lot of ways for the Waco University Trojans, not only did UHS fall to a 2-8 mark but longtime Head Coach LeRoy Coleman retired leaving a lot of uncertainty in the program. New HC Matt Carroll has come in and revitalized things and in the final game of the HEB Heart of Texas Classic Waco University (1-0) stunned the Crosby Cougars (0-1) 14-7 in a defensive battle.

Offensive MVP Randy Price led the Trojans attack as he threw for 148 yards and a touchdown and he ran for another 86 yards to pace the attack. The story of the game however was a stout Trojans defense which held the Crosby offense to 120 total yards including holding CHS RB Chance Casey to only 57 yards on 19 carries.

After stopping Crosby three and out to start the game, University had great field position and the Trojans moved inside the ten yard line where the drive had stalled and UHS lined up for an apparent field goal try. The snap was botched and the try was no good, however the Cougars were called for a facemask penalty which moved the ball to the four yard line. This also gave University an automatic first down and on the next play, Price scored on a four yard run and UHS held a 7-0 lead.

After the teams exchanged fumbles early in the second quarter, Crosby moved the ball down to the University one yard line. However on fourth and goal, the Trojans held the Cougars out of the end zone and at the half Waco University led 7-0.

In the third quarter, Crosby got a huge break on the opening kickoff as Rikko Harris muffed the opening kickoff and Crosby’s Patrick St. Romain recovered at the University 25 yard line. Five plays later CHS QB Justin Herrera hooked up with Xavier Frank for a six yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7.

University would have a quick answer as on their ensuing possession Price found WR DeMarcus Hicks in stride for a 43 yard touchdown pass to give the Trojans a 14-7 lead. The lead would stand for the remainder of the game as Crosby would fail to even register a first down in the fourth quarter as the UHS defense was simply amazing.
