Kerry's Predicted Order Of Finish
D1 Team In All caps
1. West Orange-Stark
3. Hamshire Fannett
5. Hardin Jefferson
6. Bridge City
District Outlook: This District will be a little different this year with Jasper moving North and Kirbyville dropping to 2A. West Orange-Stark until they are defeated in District will remain the favorites. Silsbee will certainly challenge the Stangs with 10 returning starters. Hamshire Fannett returns 13 starters and should be in the top to or 3 this season. Orangefield, Bridge City and Hardin Jefferson are all capable of playing Spoiler though.
Team By Team
West Orange-Stark Mustangs: 24 games and counting, that's the winning streak the Stangs have in District since dropping to 3A. WO-S returns 11 starters from a team that went to the Quarterfinals last season. QB Ortavious Hypolite and RB Quintavious Garrett will lead the Offense with some very good recievers in Trey Franks and James Haynes. The weakness is the Offensive Line. If the Stangs can fix the Line they could go even deeper than last season. Defense will always be good at WO-S. DB Josh Gloston and LB Lynch will lead the Defense.
Silsbee Tigers: Silsbee returns 4 starters on Offense but did lose some size especially on the line. Plenty of Great players on this team as well. QB Jeremy Johnson, who alot of Schools are already looking at will lead the Offense along with RB Chris castle. On Defense DE Josh Skinner (All District pick in 07) will lead the Defense.
Hamshire Fannett Longhorns: 2nd Year Coach Walt Mangan certainly turned the Longhorn program around last season. The Horns finished the season at 5-5 even upsetting Silsbee. This season the Horns return 13 starters including TB Hagan Daigle and TB Chris Bell. On Defense FS Cameron Bell returns along with a very good defensive Line. Look for the Horns in the Postseason in 08.
Orangefield Bobcats: Orangefield gets so close every season but fall just short. Could this be the year to make the Playoffs? Maybe, The Bobcats return 13 starters including QB Jace Statum and very good OL. LB Zach Peevy will return and really help this Defense. If the Cats stay healthy they could easily make another playoff push.
Hardin Jefferson Hawks: Like Bridge City no where to go but up for the Hawks. HJ finished the season at 1-6 last season. The Hawks return a load in 21 starters. "This is such a tough District says HC David Martel, we have to stay healthy". RB trey Burrell will lead the Offense along with WR James Morrison. On Defense LB John Boles. "Boles is a very tough young man and will be a great player this season says Martel". The Hawks will look to play spolier this season.
Bridge City Cardinals: 2nd year HC Chris Stump will look to turn the Cardinals around this seaosn after going 0-10 in 07. They have look much better in scrimmages this year and look for the Cardinals to put a few W's this season. 17 starters return including RB Joe Robertson along with WR Luke Rhodes. The Cards are still probably a year away but look for a big improvement this season.
