2008 District 23 2A Preview

TexasPrepInsider does not just have the best team previews around but we've also got the best district previews around! Check out the most complete breakdown anywhere and the best part?

Predicted Order Of Finish 1. Anahuac 2. Kountze 3. East Chambers 4. Hardin 5. Buna 6. Deweyville 7. Warren

District Outlook: Not the easiest District to predict this season. East Chambers lost Tramain Thomas to Graduation but still return alot of good players. Anahuac has looked very good in their scrimmages so far and Kountze is on the rise as well. Hardin will look to QB Jeremy Dickey to lead the Hornets and Deweyville welcomes a new Head Coach in Russell MacMcDaniel. Buna returns a good Backfield and Warren will look to replace the Offensive Line.

Team By Team

Anahuac Panthers: The Panthers have had a rough last few years but it looks like that is changing with 2nd year HC Darrell Barbay. WR Braxton Mayes and RB Robert Boykins will lead the Offense along with a good OL. QB Cody Johnson will be young but continues to improve. On Defense look for LB Deior McNeil and DB Dewan Childress to be big playmakers. I have the Panthers winning the District.

Kountze Lions: The Lions are not just a Basketball Program anymore. Look for Coach Stan Hodges and the Lions to make a run at the District itle this season. The Lions return 16 starters and will be led by LB/RB Milton Williams, which was All District last season. RB Jared Howard had 7 TD's last season and will also be a leading Rusher. On Defense the Lions will be led by TE Keith Gilmore and OLB Trey Walden. Look for the Lions to Roar this season.

East Chambers Buccaneers: Life will be just fine without Tramain in EC land this season. The Bucs return 11 starters with 7 of them on the Offense. QB Trey Lambert and RB Donte Raymond will lead the Offense along with an experienced OL. I have the Bucs 3rd in District but they certainly have the talent to win the District. LB Alfredo Velazquez had 99 tackles last season and should have an even better 08.

Hardin Hornets: Hardin will look to finish 08 like they did in 07. Marsh will be a big loss but the Hornets certainly return some good players. QB Jeremy Dickey (267 rushing yards) will lead the way along with RB John Stelly. LB Thomas Carrell along with FS Mitch Villamez will lead the Defense. If the Hornets can stay healthy i can see them making the Playoffs.

Buna Cougars: Coach Bradley Morgan lost a few players to Graduation but the Cougars still return RB/DB Blanton Craft, who may not only lead the Offense but the Defense as well. QB Ryan Sheppard will have more experience under his belt at QB. As i stated earlier this is a very tough District to predict this season and Buna just like the teams above have the talent to make the postseason.

Deweyville Pirates: The Pirates welcome new HC in Russell McDaniel to the program. Deweyville returns 14 starters and Coach McDaniel says hard work and experience should help the Pirates in 08. FB Keeton Addison will lead the Offense along with an experienced OL. The Defense returns some experience as well with the likes of DB Joe Dooley. Look for the Pirates to play spoiler this season.

Warren Warriors: Coach Ramsey and the Warriors will look to improve in 08 in this tough District. The tough task will be replacing the OL from 07. RB Brazos Morris and QB Colt Kelly will lead the Offense this season. If the Warriors can stay healthy you could see them pulling an upset or 2 this season as well. On Defense look for CB James Blackshear and LB Blake Riley along with FS Young to be even better this season.

Players To Watch Blake Sanders, LB Anahuac Panthers Steven Gerhard, LB Kountze Lions Eric Hart, RB East Chambers Bucs MarQuis James, WR Hardin Hornets Trenton Allen, DE/RB Buna Cougars Channing O'Banion, OL Deweyville Pirates Casey Word, TE Warren Warriors
