TexasPrepInsider takes an in depth look at The
Woodlands SQT including pool predictions from three members of the TPI staff!!!
This tournament is absolutely loaded full of talent and has five teams that
have already qualified for the 7on7 state tournament in College Station.
*Team has already qualified
Pool A-
*The Woodlands: Injuries didn’t seem to
slow The Woodlands down at all last week as they went on to make the
championship game last week at the Cy Creek SQT therefore qualifying them
already. Look out for players like WR/DB Logan Rowe, WR/QB Ryan Eastman, QB Andy McCloud, and RB Daniel Lasco.
Klein Forest: KF has only played in one
SQT so far and lost a tie breaker by 2 points. Athletes like LB Cameron Nwosu,
WR/DB Vernon Rogers, WR/DB Damian Payne, and RB Dominic Wilkins will always make
every game close.
Bryan: A solid football team on both sides
of the football. Offense will get it down with RB Monterrell Washington and WR
Trey Odom. Defensively it will be up to LB Chris Ramirez, LB Curtis Cook, and DB
Justin Hartgroves.
Cy Fair: The Bobcats have always done well
at 7on7 and especially here at The Woodlands SQT. TE Colby Goodwin is a huge
target at 6-4 and other weapons like RB Maurice Lane and QB Tevin Champagne
don’t hurt either.
Jay’s Pick: Klein Forest
AZ’s Pick: Cy Fair
Vital’s Pick: Klein Forest
Pool B-
*Cy Falls: The Golden Eagles qualified
already at their own SQT as they took on Klein Oak in the championship game.
That wont stop them from wanting to still go 3-0 in pool play with QB Kolby Gray
and WR Eric Williams.
Westfield: The Mustangs are proven winners
but have yet to really put it together during 7on7. But with an offense that has
playmakers like QB Jacoby Walker, SR Adam Watson, WR Barry Ford, and WR Ja’Mes
Logan it is bound to happen eventually.
A&M Consolidated: They have their own SQT
upcoming but would love to get qualified before. TE Taylor Dudley and CB Kip Daily will attempt to get it done here for the Tigers.
Conroe: The Tigers had a nice outing last
weekend but came up just a little short in the semifinals. RB Lou Greenwood, RB
D.D. Johnson lead the offense while LB Blake Cavil and DB Brandon Thornton will
try to anchor the defense just enough for another pool win.
Jay’s Pick: Westfield
AZ’s Pick: Westfield
Vital’s Pick: Conroe
Pool C-
Lufkin: The Panthers always have one of
the most athletic teams in the state and it wont stop this year. QB Jeffrey Claybon looks to build on his outstanding JR year with RB Trevon Lewis. The
Panthers will also host their own SQT a couple of weeks after this.
*Klein: The Bearcats looked like a team on
a mission last weekend at the Cy Creek SQT as they went on and won in the
championship game vs The Woodlands. RB Patrick Johnson and RB Dekota Barnes are
fast as lightning and DB/WR Tyler Boss just seems to be all over the field at
times.
Baytown Lee: The Ganders are the 7on7
legends and although they have had more talented teams in the past you can never
count them out in this game. DB Thomas Bates can really help them get a win with
some big defensive plays.
*Tomball: What more can you say as the
Cougars went on in extremely surprising fashion to win the 2nd day of
the Houston Texans SQT. The magic combo of QB Chad Tarhini to WR Jordan Leslie
looks to be just unstoppable.
Jay’s Pick: Lufkin
AZ’s Pick: Lufkin
Vital’s Pick: Baytown Lee
Pool D-
Oak Ridge: The War Eagles don’t run your
typical 7on7 type of offense but when you have kids like RB Freddie Dotson and
LB Jay Buchanan on the field anything can happen.
*Klein Oak: The Panthers qualified by
making it to the championship game of the Cy Falls SQT but will be playing two
district opponents and do not want to start losing now. DB Jeremy Mayweather
and DB Luke Muncie hold their own in the secondary while QB Andy Wilson will try
to find targets like TE Jordan Najvar and RB Ossam Cook.
Spring: The Lions have been in a pool tie
breaker situation in every SQT they have been in so far so clearly they are
playing good ball right now led by QB Kenric McNeal and WR Dakota Dill.
Klein Collins: New coaching staff means
new schemes and this is a perfect way for the Tigers to learn it against varsity
speed. LB/RB Malcolm Johson and LB Jesse Beauchamp will try to ralley the group.
