FB Austin Spring Game

FB Austin's Ben Hughes

Fort Bend's Stephen F. Austin High School held it's annual Spring contest Saturday afternoon, and TPI was out in force to bring you all the low down.

It was beautiful weather Saturday afternoon in Fort Bend, as the Austin Bulldog's defense out scored the offense by a single point 50 - 49.

The Austin coaches chose to go with a point system rewarding not just the traditional touchdown and field goal but also awarding points to the offense for big plays of 16 yards or more and for the offense keeping the chains moving. Equally the defense was also rewarded for traditional scoring methods as well as being awarded points for turnovers, sacks, and holding the offense to 3 and outs.

With several scouts on hand from such programs as Vanderbilt, Rice, Syracuse, and TCU to watch Bulldog Center Ben Hughes, the team put on an impressive showing in their final action before summer.

Some standouts on the offensive side of the ball included QB Daniel Rockett, and WR Spencer Henry who hooked up on a pair of 20 yard TD passes, and RB Cameron Haughton who had several big carries that drew the attention of the crowd on hand.

On the defensive side of the ball a couple of standouts included DB Kolton Koether who had several tackles and an early interception which he returned for a score, and DT Marcus Washington who was a force along the line Saturday, and is looking to make an impact as a Junior next year.
