Well, it's May and that can mean only one thing...SPRING FOOTBALL! TexasPrepInsider has you covered with our annual spring tour of the DFW area and Thursday we visited Ellis County and the Waxahachie Indians.

WAXAHACHIE-The past two seasons Waxahachie has been on the brink of big things, including last year’s District 15-4A championship and a win over longtime nemesis Ennis. However the past two seasons have not ended in happy fashion, in fact the endings have been downright heartbreaking as the Indians have fallen in the bi-district round of the playoffs two years in a row in excruitating close games to eventual two time state runner up Copperas Cove.

Hopes are still high despite the loss of the Indians leader in QB Boomer Collins who will be graduating, and the QB spot was one of the main areas of concern this spring for the Tribe and HC David Ream. The WHS spring game was held on Thursday night at Lumpkins Stadium and despite missing DB/WR Sam Gagliano who was at the state track meet and DE Drew Harrison who is in the baseball playoffs there was still plenty of talent to go around at the Green/White game.

The matchup started with a flurry as the Green Team forced a turnover as LaDarius Brown picked off an errant pass by White QB Cody Martin. After a two yard run by QB Venique Benton, the Green team would score on a two yard pass from Benton to TE Abram Reyes to make it 6-0. (No kicking was done in the game so all scores were followed by two point conversions). The White team would quickly respond as shifty TB Arxavier Boyd would break off a 34 yard run to put the White team in business after a couple of first downs. Martin would cap the drive scoring on a one yard QB sneak to tie it up at 6. Ironically that would be the final score of the game as defense, turnovers and penalties would dominate the remainder of the contest. White team DL Allen Hogan would recover a fumble by Green backup QB Kelby Rash, but the Green team would get the turnover back as London Chance would pick off White backup QB Neiman Fletcher. The second quarter would be uneventful save for an interception by Cody Martin for the White team.

The White team looked to be in business as the second half started as DE Relus Chance would recover a fumble by the Green Team, but the White squad was unable to take advantage of the good field position. Late in the fourth quarter the Green team would make a final push to the goal line led by some strong running from Darius Dansby and Tyrone Crawford. However the White team defense led by diminutive DL Aaron Herrera led the charge and stopped the Green team on downs inside the five and the game would end in a 6-6 tie.
