Check out Stepping Stones!! TexasPrepInsider goes in depth with some of the top Class of 2009 recruits as you get an early introduction to the big names for next season! Today we talk with Denton Ryan DB Yahshua Williams. If you don't have a premium membership to TexasPrepInsider, you are missing out!!!

One of the top defensive backs in the fertile recruiting ground of Dallas-Fort Worth is Denton Ryan’s Yahshua Williams. The 6’3 185 pound senior to be boasts impressive 4.5 speed in the forty yard dash along with a 34 inch vertical leap and some impressive weight room stats where Yahshua boasts a 260 bench press and a 360 pound squat max.

Williams is extremely versatile and can play all four positions in the secondary and regularly moves all over the field in the Raiders scheme. Yahshua is a three year starter for Denton Ryan and is a two time all-district performer.

Not only does Williams excel on the gridiron but he’s also a key contributor on the Denton Ryan track team where he qualified for state in 2007 in the 4x400 relay. “I am extremely focused, I study the opposing offense and I consider myself a smart player. I’m really looking to get even faster and stronger this summer and spend even more time in the film room, also,” said the Denton Ryan DB.

Although there are no favorites in the Williams sweepstakes as things stand right now, Yahshua has several big names after his services. Colorado, New Mexico, Arkansas, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M are all in the race, but Yahshua does have a strong desire to play in the Big 12.

This summer look for Williams to attend two or possibly three mini-camps in addition to playing seven on seven for Denton Ryan. “I want to attend a school with lots of tradition, but also a school where I feel comfortable and like the coaching staff,” said the future real estate major.

There isn’t a specific timetable on a decision for Yahshua (pronounced like Joshua but with a “Yah” sound at the start), Williams says he likely won’t decide until after the 2008 season. “We’ve gotten beat in the first round of the playoffs the past two years, I want to try and win district and then make a playoff run.”
