One of the big reasons that Austin LBJ finished 10-3 this season and advanced all the way to the Class 4A State Quarter-Finals was the play of LB Kerry Hyder. The 6’3 220 pound senior to be with 4.6 speed in the forty has terrorized Austin area offenses since his freshman season.
Hyder notched 156 tackles in 2007 and forced 5 fumbles and had 5 sacks and 2 INT’s as he earned TSWA 1st team all-state honors along with first team all Austin area honors. Kerry besides being a speedy LB with good size boasts excellent strength as he has a bench press max of 270 pounds and a squat max of 375 pounds.
”I think my lateral movement and my ability to read what the offense is doing are my biggest strengths, I’m really wanting to work on my speed and quickness,” said the Austin LBJ star.
Arkansas, Illinois, Texas, Texas A&M and Minnesota right now are in Hyder’s top five but he’s got a slew of others in line for his services. Look for Kerry this summer to attend at least two possibly three camps (likely Texas and Texas A&M) and play seven on seven for the Jaguars.
Kerry lists academics, tradition and campus atmosphere as main factors which will determine where he lands, and that decision on where he’ll land could come quickly. “I would like to decide before the season where I’m going because I really want to focus on my senior year. We had a great season last year, but I want to do better this year and go all the way.”
