Taylor Looking for Big Things in 2008

A big reason for Mansfield’s ascent to an 8-3 record and a trip to the Class 5A playoffs was the play of RB Stepfan Taylor. The 6’2 205 pound back with 4.5 speed earned District 4-5A MVP honors piling up 1596 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns along with 4 receiving touchdowns. Taylor as a sophomore earned 4-5A Newcomer of the Year honors rushing for 743 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Taylor is not only a speed demon out of the backfield he’s also got some strength to be a factor between the tackles as he boasts a 265 pound bench press max and a 405 pound squat max.

”I think my quickness to the hole is my biggest asset but I’ve also got good vision and I am a powerful runner,” replied Taylor who says this off-season he’s looking to work on his open field speed.

Although not holding any offers Stepfan is currently on the radar of several big time schools including Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Texas A&M and Auburn. Stepfan at this time says he doesn’t have a favorite.

This summer look for the Mansfield RB to attend two possibly three camps along with playing seven on seven. “I think location, academics and a chance at early time will be things I take a long look at when deciding where I want to wind up,” said Taylor who would like to major in Graphic Design.

Stepfan doesn’t appear to be in a rush to make a decision as it appears he’ll likely wait until after the 2008 season to make a decision on his future. “I’m excited about next year, we are in a new district with the Arlington schools and those games will be fun, I am hoping to help us win a district title and make a playoff run. Personally I’d like to get 2000 yards and earn all-state.”
