Texas QB has early eye on Florida school

FB Hightower QB A.J. Highsmith

If it's one thing the Class of 2009 is not lacking are top-rated quarterbacks. Today we check in with Texas Top 100 QB A.J. Highsmith of FB Hightower. After throwing for more than 2,000 yards this past season, he has hit the recruiting radar of several programs. TexasPrepInsider has the update on Highsmith's recruitment.

After leading his team to the Division I Texas state playoff final game in the region as a junior, Fort Bend (TX) Hightower quarterback A.J. Highsmith has strong interest from schools outside of the state.

But no problem, the 6-foot-0, 190-pound Highsmith doesn't mind crossing state lines for his school of choice.

"I don't have an offer right now, but I am hearing from Miami, Northwestern, and Boston College a lot," Highsmith said. "If I had to name a favorite now, it would have to be Miami. As far as location, it would be nice to stay home, but it really doesn't matter to me."

As a youth, Highsmith resided in Florida so the area is not foreign to him. But either way, he plans to check things out in a few months.

"I plan to visit down there this summer," Highsmith said. "I love their football program and how they have been on top for a while."

Highsmith has already had the chance to check out a few junior days at Texas A&M and Houston. He said both of them went well. He was unable to attend Northwestern's junior day, but was invited.

When looking for a program that fits his abilities, Highsmith explained what he is looking for in a university and football program.

"I'm looking for somewhere where I can get a good education," Highsmith said. "For football, I'm looking for a pro-style offense."

As a junior, Highsmith threw for over 2,200 yards and 22 touchdowns. He had five rushing touchdowns as well.
