There are several top prospects in South Texas' 2009 class, including four from the San Antonio area and one from Corpus Christi that could be top 100 prospects in the state. | |||

National Signing Day is now in the rearview mirror and for college coaches attention has already been turned to a strong group of prospects in the Class of 2009. The state of Texas will once again be chalk full of top tier national recruits like Houston Cy Ridge’s Russell Sheppard and Lufkin’s JaMarcus McFarland, and South Texas has its fair share of prime time players as well. The Pre-Spring edition of TPI’s Top 25 South Texas Prospects for 2009 features three marquee names at the top of the class of what looks to be a talented group. Headlining the group of seniors-to-be is Converse Judson’s Chris McAllister, who could play outside linebacker or defensive end at the next level and combines great size (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) with defensive back speed. South Texas has three defensive linemen that figure to be inking Division I LOI’s next February as McAllister is joined by San Antonio Warren’s Calvin Howell and Corpus Christi Miller’s Terry Ray in the top five. Two dynamic players on the offensive side of the ball round out the top five with Alamo Heights quarterback Drew Allen (No. 3) and San Antonio Madison’s Andrew Green (No. 4). Green filled in nicely for Ole Miss signee Devin Thomas at midseason and helped carry the Mavericks offense all the way to the state semifinals. Green, although he is a great athlete, will likely play defensive back at the next level. |
