2007 All-Class 2A Central Texas Team

Lexington LB Andrew Wolridge is the Defensive POY

It was a big year for the Central Texas 2A ranks once again and the 2007 All-area team is a star-studded one.

SAN MARCOS – 2007 was a dream season for Lago Vista running back Devin Brown, and the honors keep pouring in for the Vikings star.

The MVP of District 25-2A and a consensus all-State selection, Brown was been selected as Central Texas' 2007 Class 2A MVP by Texas Prep Insider.

The Vikings, who have never made the playoffs prior to this season and have only been playing varsity football since 2000, made the postseason and won the first ever playoff game in school history (21-7 over Franklin) before bowing out in the area round of the Class 2A, Division II playoffs to Rice Consolidated. Brown was a big reason for the Vikings success in 2007 as he rushed for 2,008 yards and 15 touchdowns.

James Green of Teague was equally as impressive this past season as the junior running back paced a high powered ground attack for the Lions with over 1,800 yards and 27 touchdowns and no fumbles as he takes home offensive player of the year honors.

On defense, Lexington linebacker Andrew Wolridge is our pick for as the defensive player of the year. The Texas A&M commit was dominant all season long for the Eagles with 112 tackles, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and three blocked kicks.

McGregor linebacker Hector Rodriguez, who made his varsity debut for the Bulldogs in 2007 after transferring last season and playing his sophomore year on junior varsity, is the newcomer of the year after recording an eye-popping 193 tackles and eight sacks on his way to all-State and District 21-2A co-defensive player of the year.

2007 was also a record setting year for the Salado Eagles and their head coach Jeff Cheatham, our choice as the Central Texas Class 2A coach of the year. Cheatham, who has led the Eagles to several playoff appearances since taking over the school's football program in 2000, finally say his club get over the hump in a big way this past season. The Eagles finished 13-1 and earned a berth in the Division I state semifinals where they lost a hard-fought shootout against Tatum.
