I’m going to SMU, period

He led the Katy team to victory in the Texas 5A Division II state championship, now QB Bo Levi Mitchell has been across the country looking for the right fit. And, he thought he found it. But after de-committing from Hawaii when coach June Jones left, Mitchell was sure to follow wherever Jones went. And he did. TexasPrepInsider talked to Mitchell after his official visit to SMU.

When Katy quarterback Bo Mitchell gave his verbal commitment to Hawaii back in December 2007 that was where he felt like he belonged. But since coach June Jones left and took over the head job at SMU, Mitchell’s attentions quickly turned towards the Mustang program.

Now after an official visit, it’s official.

“I’m going to SMU,” Mitchell said. “It was awesome. The campus is amazing and the coaches are cool. It was everything everyone said it would be and more.”

The 6-2, 193-pound Mitchell chose SMU over schools like Central Arkansas, Stephen F. Austin, Colorado School of Mines, Eastern Washington, and Blinn Junior College. 

While on the visit, Mitchell spoke with Jones about expectations and playing time. The situation seems to be good for the Katy product.

“Our talks went good,” Mitchell said. “He wants to come out this fall and compete for a job for next season.”

This past season, Mitchell threw for 2,455 yards and 37 touchdowns. When asked why he chose SMU over the other programs, Mitchell’s answer was simple.

“It’s the overall feeling knowing you can be a part of a program that is turning around,” Mitchell said. “I’m ready to come in and help the program win.”

So does he plan to entertain any other interested schools?

“I’m solid to SMU, no more trips,” Mitchell said. “I’m done and I am glad that everything is over. I’m ready to sign on February 6.”
