A lot of factors are contributing to the turn around the past two seasons at Odessa Permian but one big reason has to be OT Garrett Porter who the past two seasons has anchored one of the best offensive lines in the state for MOJO. Porter who is an impressive 6'6 305 pounds is one of the most sought after prospects in the state after earning first team Class 5A all-state honors in 2007 as a junior in leading Permian to a 12-1 season.

Porter who also is a member of the Permian powerlifting and track teams considers himself a smart player with quick feet. "I think my feet really help me in both pass blocking and run blocking," says Porter who is looking to improve his speed and strength this off-season.

It could be the SEC for Garrett when it comes to his college choice, "I really want to play in the SEC, the level of competition in that conference is incredible," replied the Permian OT. Georgia, Virginia, LSU, Texas, Arizona and Oklahoma look to be in the running to land the big tackle from West Texas as things stand right now.

Garrett is undecided on his camp schedule for this summer, but last summer he made the Texas tour attending camps at Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech. "Academics are important and that will play a big role in where I end up but I'd also like to play for a winning program," said Porter who'd like to major in science.

With all of the success Permian has had the past two seasons as they've gone three rounds deep the past two seasons, Garrett knows teams are now gunning for MOJO. "Now that we have re-established ourselves as a contender people will be gunning for us, we just need to keep working harder than everyone else and be ready every week."
