Even though his team is getting ready to play for the Texas state 5A Division II playoffs this weekend against Pflugerville, quarterback Bo Mitchell has still been receiving calls regarding recruiting. As reported earlier this month, he got a call from Hawaii inviting him to come up on an official visit.
At the time, the Warrior program did not offer. But here recently, that changed. Not only did he get the offer, he went ahead and made it official right there on the phone.
“Coach (Dan) Morrison called and said he wanted to offer me,” Mitchell said. “He said he wanted to get me before anyone else did. Then he told me he understood that I had to talk it over with my family before making my decision. I told him I already have. I’ll commit right now.”
And Mitchell made the commitment on the spot. The 6-2, 193-pound Mitchell chose the Warrior program over schools like Central Arkansas, Stephen F. Austin, Colorado School of Mines, and Blinn Junior College.
When it came down to it, Mitchell said that Hawaii had all that he was looking for in a school.
“I have checked it out and they have a good engineering program,” Mitchell said. “Really, I have always wanted to go there and it a good place for quarterbacks to be. It’s like paradise.”
He is still currently in his senior season and has already thrown for 2,312 yards and 34 touchdowns. With other offers on the table, is there any chance Mitchell will entertain, or even visit any other programs that have shown interest?
“I doubt it,” Mitchell said. “I have already called a few schools, but plan to call the rest once the game is over this weekend. I am going down there (Hawaii) on January 18 and then it is done. My hope is to go down there and make things happen.”
