TPI's 2008 South Texas Top 25 Prospects

San Antonio Madison RB Devin Thomas

Despite a midseason injury, San Antonio Madison's Devin Thomas stands tall as the top prospect in South Texas' class of 2008.

With two of San Antonio's finest programs, Converse Judson and San Antonio Madison, set to play in Class 5A state semifinal games this weekend, it gives proof that there is some serious talent in South Texas.

The region has several high profile prospects in the class of 2008, but no star shines brighter than that of Arkansas commit Devin Thomas as the Madison running back is the No. 1 ranked prospect in TPI's postseason ranking of the Top 25 prospects in South Texas.

Despite missing the Mavericks playoff run after suffering an ankle injury in the middle of the season, Thomas was spectacular during the 2007 season rushing for 1,447 yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging a blistering 11.3 yards per carry.

The top prospect from the Valley is massive Los Fresnos offensive lineman Mario Benavides as the 6-foot-4-inch, 285 pound three star Louisville pledge is ranked right behind Thomas at No. 2.

LSU managed to pull two prospects out of the region, the most thus far of any college, with Kerrville Tivy linebacker Kyle Prater (No. 3) Smithson Valley offensive lineman Thomas Parsons (No. 4) both heading to Baton Rouge.

In addition to the aforementioned schools, Iowa State, North Texas, Oklahoma State, TCU, Tulsa, and UTEP have also received commitments from prospects in the top 25.
