Running back Wesley Cobb of Cy Fair High School has decided to make the most of the 2007 season. Cobb filled in early in the season for teammate Sam McGuffie and has been a solid workhorse for the Bobcat offense.
After weeks of pounding out his competition, Cobb has a few Division I coaches' attention.
"I don't have an offer yet, but Navy has been sending me a lot of stuff," Cobb said. "I talk with them a lot. I also have been hearing from Stephen F. Austin and Mary Hardin-Baylor."
Cobb said Navy has been coming on the hardest and views them as a possible favorite, but he is still testing the waters. As far as SFA, he is still doing research.
"It would be really cool for me to go there," Cobb said of Navy. "I heard that once you serve your time, you come out as an officer. I think it would be a good education, but my options are still open. I do not know a lot about SFA so I am trying to find out what I can."
On the season, Cobb has 983 yards and nine touchdowns. With McGuffie back in the line up, it appears that Cobb is used as more of a short-yardage back.
But as far as Cobb is concerned, that is okay.
"I think I am the back you use when you want ball control," Cobb said. "I'll just keep pounding you to eat up the clock. I consider myself more of a power back."
Cobb and the Bobcat team will finish up the regular season next Saturday against Cy Ridge. They will likely make postseason play.
