TPI's Central Texas Top 25 Prospects: 15-11
15. Chase Harper, TE, Pflugerville Connally
Harper played at tight end and defensive end as a junior earning consensus first team all-District honors at both spots. This season however he has been making plays on the perimeter at receiver and has shown a great ability to make people miss in the open field and make plays after the catch. He will likely return to tight end in college and he is reporting an offer from Baylor.
14. Trevor Marrongelli, OL, Round Rock Westwood
One of the area's top linemen for the past three years, Marrongelli has twice been an all-District pick. He has played on both sides of the ball and has shown a great first step and does a great job at finishing blocks. He plays in a shotgun offense and can play high at times, but his upside is tremendous. He has a host of offers including Baylor, Iowa State, and Kansas.
13. Derrick Grant, DB, Austin LBJ
Grant had an outstanding sophomore season as he was a first team all-District defensive end but an injury shortened his junior season. He is now back and is making on both sides of the ball as a linebacker and receiver. He has good speed for an edge pass rusher in high school, but right now he looks like a project safety built in the Sean Taylor mold. Grant is reporting offers from Iowa State and Rice.< p>
12. Darius Darks, DB, Pflugerville Connally
Darks' athleticism is almost unmatched in the area as he can play virtually anywhere on the field as ion his career he has played all over the defensive backfield, at quarterback, running back, and receiver. None of his vitals will jump off the page, but he has a great feel for the game that cannot be coached. He is reportedly holding offers from Baylor, Iowa State, and Michigan State.
11. Blake Gideon, DB, Leander
Much like Darks, vitals do not do Gideon justice. He has very good straight line speed and as a safety he does a good job of filling the alley in run support. He has an exceptional football I.Q. like most coach's sons have and he has added a new dimension to his game with four interceptions this season, doubling his total from his junior season. Gideon ended the recruiting process last spring as he committed to Texas.
The update of the Top 25 Prospects in Central Texas continues with a look at prospect No. 15 all the way to just outside the top ten at No. 11. Only one prospect in this group has committed, but all the rest have offers and bright futures.
