Klein 48, Spring 14

I will admit whenever I am completely wrong and totally
underestimate a team. Well, The Klein Bearkats proved to me that they are a very
physical team up front and are dominating against the run on defense.
Klein SOPH LB Kevin Kisseberth intercepted a pass on the
first Spring drive and that set the tempo for the defense for the rest of the
night. The scoring got off to a start late in the fist quarter when SR K Randy
Bullock nailed a 54 yard FG attempt that tied his career long. Another Spring
turnover, this time a fumble on their own 15 yard line, led to a 4 yard TD run
by SR RB C.J. Palmer. Another interception by Klein which was returned to the
Spring 20 led to another Palmer score from 14 yards out to build the Bearkat
lead to 17-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Lions then got on the board
with 4:35 left in the second quarter when JR QB Kenric McNeal eluded a rusher
and hooked up with JR WR Dakota Dill on a 51 yard TD pass to cut the lead to
17-7. Palmer would answer right back with his third TD run of the half on a 25
yard scamper to the endzone. With :03 left on the clock before halftime Klein
set up for a FG attempt by Bullock. Spring called two straight time-outs in
attempt to ice him but he booted a 50 yard FG as time expired to make the
halftime score 27-7 in favor of the Bearkats.
Spring opened the second half of the game with a nice ball
control drive that resulted in a 4 yard TD pass from the same combo of McNeal to
Dill. Klein once again though answered right back with a 1 yard TD run by SR QB
Adam Smith on a quarterback sneak to jump the Klein lead back to 34-14. Just
about one minute later Klein once again was on the scoreboard as SR RB Nick
Farley ran to the endzone from 35 yards out making the score 41-14. The third
INT of the night for Klein was caught by SR LB Matt West and he took it all the
way back to the Spring one yard line before being pushed out of bounds. That
turnover resulted in a 1 yard TD run by SR RB Ian Lancaster that gave the final
score of 48-14 in favor of the Klein. The win brings the Klein Bearkats to 4-1
overall and 1-0 in district play. The Spring Lions go to 3-2 and 0-1 in
district. A noteworthy item is the fact that Klein SR K Randy Bullock hit a 54
and a 50 yard FG and every kickoff except one hit completely out of the endzone.
Klein SR RB C.J. Palmer had 26 rushes for 118 yards and 3
TD. SR RB Nick Farley had 14 carries for 162 yards and a TD. The Klein offensive
line, led by Ohio State verbal commit J.B. Shugarts and Rice verbal commit Clay Hebert, absolutely dominated up front and allowed Klein to get over 300 rushing
yards on the night. Spring did throw the ball effectively as JR WR Dakota Dill
caught 5 passes for 82 yards and 2 TD. JR QB Kenric McNeal was 13-21 for 115
yards and 2 TD but also had 3 INT.
