Klein Oak scored early and quite often in the first half
and showed Magnolia why they state ranked. JR RB Osaam Cook had the first strike
as he took a handoff in from 6 yards out for a TD. The first of 3 TD’s in the
second quarter came when SR ATH Terrence Robinson received the snap at
quarterback and took a shotgun zone read play with some very nifty moves (that
you can see on the video hilights) in for 6 points. The second TD comes once
again from Robinson with the assistance of SR QB/WR Wes Theiss. Theiss threw a
screen pass to Robinson (which he talks about in the interview) and Robinson
eluded a tackle and took it 40 yards to paydirt. Magnolia was moving the ball
well and was into Panther territory but the only pass thrown by the Bulldogs all
night was then picked off by SR DB/WR Scott Arthur. The final score in the half
came from a Theiss pass to SR WR DeSean Hales. Hales was hit perfectly in stride
and once he caught it he accelerated into the endzone for the 70 yard TD pass.
That score gave us the halftime score of 28-0 but the Panthers didn’t stop
there, and the Bulldogs never quit.
There was no scoring until 3:49 left in the third quarter
when the explosive Hales took a punt return 58 yards for a score which you can
see on the hilights as well. The beginning of the fourth quarter went well for
the Bulldogs as they finally put together a scoring drive which was capped by SR
QB Josh Smith on a 10 yard TD option keeper. Just a few plays after scoring the
Bulldogs picked up a loose ball and once again Smith took it in for a TD on an
option keeper, this time 11 yards. The very next offensive play Robinson was
determined as he kept the ball on a shotgun zone read play and took it 58 yards
before he was finally tripped up. Robinson later scored on a 27 yard screen pass
thrown by Theiss to make the final score 41-14.
Although as the
score indicates the game was never really in question the Bulldogs put forth a
tremendous effort and showed a lot of heart. The offense was led by QB Josh
Smith who had 21 rushes for 119 yards and 2 TD runs. SR FB Arnold Nevarez also
had a lot of tough carries up the middle against the solid Panther defense.
Klein Oak was once again led by SR Terrance Robinson he had 15 carries for 173
yards and a TD as well as 4 receptions for 109 yards and 2 TD. SR DeSean Hales
had 3 receptions for 86 yards and a TD also. SR QB Wess Theiss was 8-14 for 204
yards and 3 passing TD. JR RB Ossam Cook also helped carry the load as he had 8
carries for 48 yards and a TD.
