McKinney North Rolls Past Denton

North improves to 2-0 with the win Thursday night

It was a banner offensive day for the Bulldogs as they pulled away from a game Denton squad in a 43-13 win on Thursday night.

DENTON- The McKinney North Bulldogs (2-0) rolled up 487 yards of offense in a convincing 43-13 rout of the Denton Broncos (1-1) Thursday night at the C.H. Collins Athletic Complex. McKinney North WR David Douglas was a one man wrecking crew for the Bulldogs as he hauled in 9 passes for 179 yards and 4 touchdowns, while QB Kris Williams posted 100 yards rushing on only six carries to lead the ‘Dawgs ground game.

After forcing a Denton three and out, McKinney North used a hurry up offense to move the ball down to the Denton five. However the drive stalled and the Bulldogs had to settle for a 24 yard field goal by Steven Meyer and with 8:28 left in the first quarter MNHS led 3-0. Denton would respond however as RB Lance Lorne would score on a 43 yard touchdown run to put the Broncos up 7-3 as Daniel Premenko's PAT was good. Denton benefited from 3 McKinney North penalties on the drive including two key penalties on 3rd down plays that gave DHS a first down each time. Denton would shoot themselves in the foot on the ensuing kickoff as the kick went out of bounds giving the Bulldogs good field position. North would take advantage of the good field position as WR David Douglas would score on 10 yard touchdown pass from Vince Stanko, the PAT try blocked and North led 9-7. The two teams would trade punts, but then with 4:32 left in the second Douglas would strike again as he caught a quick out pass and took it up the sideline for a 62 yard catch and run. The two point try was no good and North led 15-7, and that 15-7 margin would hold up heading into the locker room for halftime.

After forcing a McKinney North punt to start the second half, Denton High pulled out a little trickery as WR Desmond Taylor caught a 43 yard touchdown pass on a flea flicker from Spencer Stewart to cut the Bulldogs lead to 15-13 with little more than seven minutes left in the third. North would waste little time responding as backup QB Kris Williams would out run the Denton defense on an impressive 75 yard touchdown run and with 5:56 left in the third and the score was 22-13. North then would recover a perfectly placed popup kick at the Broncos 26, however the Bulldogs would fail to capitalize as Meyer's 30 yard field goal try was wide left. North would again move inside the DHS 30 but Meyer would be short on a 37 yard attempt as the snap was low. Denton High's offense would throw an interception on their next possession as DB Kris Williams who earlier had the long touchdown run picked off Stewart. On the next play, Stanko would once again hook up with Douglas for an 11 yard scoring pass to make it 29-13 North. After a Denton fumble, Stanko and Douglas would hook up for a fourth time this time from 43 yards out to make it 36-13. North would snuff out a late Denton drive as sophomore Josh Matthews would intercept a Stewart pass and then on the ensuing possession Matthews would score on a 50 yard touchdown run to make it 43-13 which would be the final margin.
