Central Texas Players of the Week: Week 0

Madisonville's Chris Whaley is the 3A P.O.W.

There were some big peroformances in Central Texas and we have the top efforts from each 5A and 4A district in the area as well as our awards for the 3A and 2A area players of the week.

DISTRICT 13-5A: Lache Seastruck, RB, Temple
The sophomore had only seven carries against South Garland, but two of those went for touchdowns, including a 75-yard burst as the Wildcats beat the Colonels 21-17. Seastruck finished the game with 112 yards on the ground.

DISTRICT 14-5A: Tyler Grabarkewitz, QB, Round Rock Westwood
The junior quarterback, making his first career start against Austin High, had a big night going 16-for-21 through the air for 200 yards and a touchdown pass in the Warriors 27-7 upset victory over the Maroons.

DISTRICT 25-5A: Patrick Kurunwune, RB, Austin Anderson
A Duke commitment, Kurunwune helped the Trojans beat rival McCallum in the Taco Shack Bowl at House Park by rushing for 175 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries in Anderson's 44-20 win.

DISTRICT 16-4A: Jared Salubi, RB, Waco High
The Lions, ranked No. 2 in TPI's Class 4A Statewide poll, blew past Wylie 35-15 in Week 0 behind Salubi's impressive performance. The Baylor pledge rushed for 237 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

DISTRICT 17-4A: Stephone Mercer, WR/DB, Austin LBJ
The Jaguars sparkplug had four catches for 47 yards on offense and had an electrifying 48-yard interception return for a touchdown in LBJ's 21-6 win over Cameron Yoe.

DISTRICT 25-4A: Cade McCrary, WR, Lake Travis
McCrary had a huge day in the Cavaliers 32-31 win over Texas City with 12 catches for 207 yards and three touchdowns.

DISTRICT 26-4A: Ryan Perez, QB, New Braunfels
The senior came up big in the Unicorns win over Fredericksburg by going 13-for-23 through the air for 209 yards while adding an addition 158 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in a 33-22 victory.

CLASS 3A: Chris Whaley, RB, Madisonville
One of the state's top juniors, Whaley got his season off to a fine start by rushing for 126 yards and two touchdowns and tallying a 60-yard touchdown catch in the Mustangs 26-13 win over Navasota.

CLASS 2A: Devin Brown, RB, Lago Vista
The Vikings got their season off to a 1-0 start thanks in large part to the veteran Brown, who had 196 yards rushing and a touchdown in the 20-13 victory.
