Week 0 District 24-4A Insider

There are some big games in Week 0 for District 24-4A. 2006 District Champ Lamar Consolidated leads it off at home against Waller. How will the Mustangs fare along with the rest of the District?

Week Zero Outlook: District 24-4A has their hands full in all matchups to start off the 2007 high school football season. Lamar Consolidated looks to kick off another strong showing against Waller, while new head Coach Danny Edelman takes his Bay City Blackcats to Houston to face the TAPPS state champions St. Pius Panthers.

Waller Bulldogs at Lamar Consolidated Mustangs: The Waller Bulldogs will have their hands full containing speedy running back Jacquizz Rodgers and the Mustangs. QB D.J. Smallwood is back to help solidify the passing game, while the defense will look for some players to step up around four year varsity player Sule Osagiede. Waller QB Jeremy Phillips will try to keep the Lamar Consolidated defense honest with WR Stephen Williams as his go-to target. Hoffy's Pick: Mustangs by 20

Katy Seven Lakes Spartans at Sugar Land Clements Rangers: The Spartans enter their second year of varsity football with an opener against Clements. Even though Seven Lakes returns all of their starters on both sides of the ball, don't expect miracles early. Clements is too strong, behind the passing of QB Derek Carr, and the defense of LB Kyle Hoke. The Spartans will try to stay in this one, but their first varsity win will have to wait another week. Hoffy's Pick: Rangers by 28

Bay City Blackcats at Houston St. Pius X Panthers: The Blackcats come into the season with a new coach, and a new attitude. Enter Head Coach Danny Edelman, with his wide open offenses, and his positive demeanor. This team looked improved against Willis in their only scrimmage last week but will face a very good St. Pius team in Week 0. The Panthers return 7 offensive starters from a TAPPS state championship squad. QB Billy Noonan is back to lead the squad and has many weapons once again. This battle of the Cats should be better, but St. Pius will be too tough once again. Hoffy's Pick: Panthers by 17

El Campo Ricebirds at Yates Lions: These two teams have locked it up in recent years. El Campo poses a strong running game with the tandem of Anthony Terell and Maverick Smith leading the way, but the birds may have trouble against a stout lion defense. Yates allowed only 185 yards per game last season, led by big DE Damian Square. This game will once again be one to watch. Hoffy's Pick: Yates by 6
