Clear Lake Junior Ready for Season

Clear Lake's Stephen Barrera

TPI caught up with the Clear Lake Defensive Tackle recently to discuss his outlook on the upcoming season.

Having rehabbed from self described minor knee surgery in the off season; Stephen Barrera is ready to go as Clear Lake opens its season with Jersey Village Friday night.

"It was just a minor surgery to repair some cartilage that had separated from the bone in the knee"

Barrera has been back in the weight room, and has been adding to his already impressive numbers.

"My bench is at 375 lbs. right now, and my squat has been coming back up since the surgery. It is at 425 lbs."

Although Barrera is only heading into his Junior year, he is already starting to get some initial interest from big schools.

"I have received some initial contact from Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., and Texas A&M to name a few"

When asked if he had any early favorites, he listed the Sooners, Aggies, and Michigan.

Barrera, who is coming off of an Honorable Mention selection in district 24-5A as a Sophomore, has bigger goals for the upcoming season.

"I would like to make 1st team all district this year, and improve on my stats, as well as see our team win our district. We are going to have a great defensive line this year, and I think we can go all the way"
