GREATER HOUSTON FOOTBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION NOTES: PART 1
Cy Ridge tailback, Hassan Lipscomb, has the fastest 40 time we know of with a pair of 4.38 in the 40's. His backfield mate is Russell Sheppard, they might be the best backfield in the state, at the least they are the most explosive.
Corey Wright from Jersey Village ran a 4.84 had 19 reps at the bench, he has 11 offers including Oklahomas and Texas. His top three are LSU, Oklahoma and Texas. Big dude and cut, right now it is top three and really no one else even close. Expect to hear a lot more about him soon.
Alex Miranda from Klein Oak had a 4.61 which is particularly impressive considering he is a linebacker. Miami is looking at him as a defensive end while others are looking at him as a linebacker. Arizona and Colorado are players here, his family have big-time A&M ties so A&M could be a player before the recruiting season is over. He is a bit overshadowed by some of the talented players on the team but he has the skills and the speed to have a big break through year and you know if Miami comes out to see you then you have some skills.
According to his coach, quite a few teams are looking at sophomore DE Mike Brockers from Chavez, he is a 6'6 260 pound defensive end who runs a reported 5.00. Though schools are looking at DE I think his future is at DT or tackle if he does not cut some time off the 40 time.
Pflugerville's Marcus Carruth had 21 reps of bench press, ran a 4.8 and had a 3.9 shuttle. He is looking at A&M, Ga Tech, NW and Arkansas. He is a fullback/linebacker who rushed for 644 yards on 96 carries for 6 touchdowns. This is on a team that had two all-district running backs already coming back.
Houston Lamar sophomore tailback Kelvin Guyton busted out a 4.55 in the 40 with 15 reps at the bench and a 4.47 shuttle, he likes Texas. Guyton busted out an 80 something yard td run in the playoffs this past season. Look for him to be one of the Houston Area's top tailbacks if not a top tailback in the state.
Nick Saenz of Pearland had a 4.40 in the fourty. He has three offers already but with this time he should start getting more, he is not big but he is fast.
BTW, Oak Ridge won the big man challenge, more like dominated it.
Atascocita running back Brandon Stewart had a good day as he busted out a 4.6 on a slow turf today.
From Crosby DT Michael Gullory had 35 reps on the bench for a good showing. He is not very big but he has some serious strength. With that type of muscle he could be in for a big senior season.
Chad Bimmage from Clear Brook did good with a 4.8 in the fourty, he is around 6'3 230. He looks like a college player and with a little more speed he will get even more looks. Watch to see what he does early in the football season. He is planning on going to the OSU and A&M camp and Oklahoma St. and Northwestern are among his favorites
Note on the shuttle times, they were bad because of all the black fill-in on the turf.
