Lair who will be a three year starter in 2007 was an honorable mention all-district pick in District 20-5A catching 27 passes for 427 yards and 3 toouchdowns, as he helped the Redskins to a 9-3 record and a trip to the Class 5A area playoffs in 2006. The Lamar High TE sports an impressive 300 pound bench press max, a 450 pound squat max and a 34 inch vertical leap.
Besides starring on the gridiron, Eric is also a member of the LHS basketball team where he plays forward. “My good hands, size and my deceptive speed are my biggest strengths. I know how to use my body and “box out” defensive backs to prevent them from knocking the ball away,” said Lair who also stated this off-season he is looking to improve his route running.
Lair who already boasts offers from Oklahoma State and Baylor is also close to getting an offer from TCU as well. Arizona, North Carolina, Texas Tech and Texas A&M also have shown significant interest in the TE from Houston.
Eric last summer impressed in mini-camps at Oklahoma State, Baylor and Oklahoma and was also a member of the Redskins summer 7 on 7 team which advanced to the state tournament last July. This summer look for Lair to once again try and lead the LHS 7 on 7 team to the state tournament which will be held on the campus of Texas A&M University in July.
“Academics and style of play will be important in deciding where I wind up, I want to go to a school who throws the ball some,” said Lair who plans on majoring in Civil Engineering. Eric doesn’t have a specific timetable on a decision but he would like to have it done as soon as possible.
Eric has some lofty goals set for 2007 and with some solid talent at Lamar they are one of the teams to watch in Houston ISD, “I’d like to win district and make a playoff run, personally I would like to get all-Houston and over 10 touchdowns as well.”
