Mills Promoted To Head Coach At Whitney

Posted Jul 7, 2006

Whitney High School promoted Andy Mills to be the school’s new head football coach after former coach Paul Hurst resigned to become a teach in San Angelo. The move signaled that the program wanted to keep the hire in-house to build on some new-found momentum.

Whitney had fallen on tough times prior to Hurst’s arrival. The team had won only three games over six years, but in Hurst’s two years the program went 4-6 and followed that with a 6-5 record in 2005, good enough for the Wildcats’ first trip to the playoffs since 1983. Whitney was district co-champion last year.

Mills graduated from Whitney in 1988 and was an assistant last year.
