Midlands Quick Notes (1/18/13)

Houston Lamar QB Darrell Colbert Jr. was offered

FOX Sports NEXT has some new offers, in-home visits and a couple commitments happening in the Midlands region. Here are a few notes from the week.

Quick Note on Benenoch
Seven Lakes offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch committed to UCLA last month. He reached out to tell FOX Sports NEXT that is not only solid, but he is looking forward to having the Bruins coaches in his home for a visit on January 29.

Dallas DB Gets Two
He has already been invited to junior days at Baylor, Oklahoma and LSU, but Dallas (TX) South oak Cliff defensive back Jyaz Jones also pulled in two offers this week from Colorado State and New Mexico State

Lamar Trio Gets Offers
After the Houston (TX) Lamar team showed the entire state and southwest region that it is more than capable of holding its own on the big stage (despite the loss to Allen), there has been an increased number of college coaches coming by the program to look in on some guys.

Sure there are still schools coming by to see if it is still possible to get in on 2013 defensive tackle Zelt Minor, there are plenty of athletes for the 2014 class as well. On Friday, a few offers were extended. SMU offered quarterback Darrell Colbert and center Braylon Hyder. At some point during the day, Ohio State also came by to offer John Bonney, a defensive back who is now up to 11 offers.

Smythe Has Top 3
In a recent interview with Northeast Recruiting Analyst Brian Dohn, Belton tight end Durham Smythe told Dohn that the choices are narrowed down to three programs with Stanford, Michigan and Notre Dame making the list. Smythe has already visited Stanford, but will get out to Ann Arbor and South Bend in the next two upcoming weeks.

Katy DE Offered
A player to keep an eye on is Katy Seven Lakes defensive end Jarrett Johnson. Apparently, the coaches at Missouri are already aware of him as the coaches offered Johnson on Thursday of this week.
