Late Friday night, the 6'1" 225lb running back confirmed to IRS that he has committed to Oregon State, but has not completely shut the door to his recruiting. Lawrence Mattison informed Oregon State Head Coach Mike Riley and his staff that he was ready to be a Beaver.
"They kept in contact and they let me know that they were going to accept me as a football player, but as a man too. It's just a good family like atmosphere," said Mattison.
He's scheduled to take his official visit to Corvallis the weekend of January 11th.
Where it gets interesting is that Mattison is not completely shutting the door on his options. It was only three weeks ago in an update that Mattison confirmed to IRS, it would be a signing day decision between Oregon State and UTSA. His top 2 choices.
"I'm 99.9% committed to Oregon State. I'm not going to cancel my visit to UTSA. I'm keeping my options open if anything changes."
So is there a chance for UTSA?
Our staff confirmed that Mattison's UTSA offer remains in tact and he is set to visit the campus on the weekend of January 25th. We've seen the fluidity of his recruitment first hand, so that could all change after his trip to Corvallis next weekend and or his trip to UTSA later in the month.
Mattison's focus is also in the classroom. After three to four months of an ACT prep course, he's buckling up to take the test in order to be a full qualifier.
