He and his Coppell teammates season came to an end with a tough loss to No. 1 DeSoto on Saturday, but all-in-all it was a successful season that showcased West in an offense that led the team to a 11-1 record.
He was led the team in scoring on the ground rushing for 627 yards and seven touchdowns.
"I just work hard in practice," West said of how he was bale to crack in to the lineup at the ultra competitive 5A program. "I worked hard when off-season started last year and I just did what I had to do."
On the field, West says he looks up to teammate an upperclassman Gavin McDaniel for inspiration for his game.
"Definitely Gavin," West answered when asked who he patterns himself after. "He pushes me to the limit and helps make me do the things I do."
"I feel like my speed and my vision are my biggest strengths. I make the quick cuts."
It's a little early to sort through to much on the recruiting front for the youngster, but he does like a couple of major BCS schools and if things go perfectly those are the two programs he strongly hopes to receive offers from.
"To earn offers from schools like that I have to work hard and run well out on the field and pass my classes."
